A practical guide to visiting White Island — the sandbar everyone photographs — including where the boats leave from, what it costs, and when to go to beat the crowds.
White Island is a bare sandbar in the Bohol Sea, with no trees and no permanent structures — just white sand and turquoise water, with Mt. Hibok-Hibok and Mt. Vulcan visible across the water on Camiguin's mainland. It's one of the most-photographed spots on the island, which also means it draws a steady stream of day-trip boats once the morning gets going.
Boats leave from the White Island Ferry Terminal in Mambajao, right beside Paras Beach Resort. The crossing takes about 10 minutes. A pump boat rental runs around ₱550 and covers up to 6 passengers, so it's worth coordinating with other guests if you're traveling in a small group — splitting one boat is cheaper than two people each booking separately.
Entrance is ₱50 per person on top of the boat fare. If you want to snorkel, equipment rental is around ₱100, life jackets are ₱50, and beach umbrellas (worth getting — there's zero natural shade) run about ₱150.
Go early — between 5:30 and 6:00 AM if you can manage it. The island has no shade at all, so it gets uncomfortably hot by mid-morning, and the sandbar fills up with boats as the day goes on. An early visit also means calmer water and better light for photos.
Most visitors spend about an hour to 90 minutes on the island — enough time to swim, snorkel the shallows, and take photos before the heat (and crowds) build up. The sandbar's exact shape shifts with the tides, so it looks a little different every visit.

No. The sandbar has no trees or shelter, so an umbrella rental (about ₱150) is worth it if you're staying more than an hour.
